I will be travelling to Koh samui on 5th April 2005 and was wondering if anyone had any advice as to the best diving day trips to do leaving from the island.

The two best dives are definately Sail Rock and Chumpon Pinnacles. Unfotunately, it is a full day to dive these locations since they are far away (leave at 7:30 am get back at 6:30). They do have a few "speed boats" that may be worth checking out if it is not windy.

www.planet-scuba.net has speed boat from Samui.

Planet Scuba has two offices. One in Samui and one in Koh Tao. I heard real bad things about their office in Koh Tao so I only recommend the Samui office.

Another vote for Chumpon. Lots of sharks if you can get down before the other divers.

Try Samui International Diving School (their shop is along the main strip). They have a good fast speed boat called Naughty Girl II which I used this time last year. They got us back in the early afternoon after a dive at the Chumporn pinnacle, lunch on Koh Tao and a second dive around Koh Tao.

There were sharks at the pinnacle, 8 bull sharks to be exact, amazing to see especially since we were left alone after briefly checking us out - the ones there have a good reputation for not being overly aggressive. We were lucky as the speed boat got us there well before the other boats and it was a nice uncrowded dive so no one else spooked the sharks

Planet Scuba's office on Samui is called Samui International Diving School.

Didn't know that but their Samui office were a good bunch and I enjoyed diving with them.
