Hi all,

Just started my training and am really excited about diving!
I got a book from my friend who can't dive anymore, but it doesn't have the knowledge review questions - however, I have got a question list online somewhere, and will fill these out for my homework.

So as I don't ask you to write the questions online, in case of any copyright etc..
Can you tell me whether the knowledge review questions for chap 1 are titled Quiz 1-A and run from 1 to 10 multiple choice? They have embedded graphics on the page.

Or are they straight text questions that require filling in some words, and also multiple choice.

Alternatively, if you could email me one question from the 10 or more, I can see if it is the same as what I have.

thanks a lot. I want to make sure my homework is done right!

FYI our local dive shop let my fiance use my book from when I had previously gotten certified and they photocopied the knowledge review/quizes for her

What you have online are not the knowledge reviews.

As was said, just ask the LDS to copy a set for you.

Geesh your lucky. Husband and I had to buy a book each for each course :( I would like to keep one of each course book for reference but if anyone needs a OW, nitrox, rescue, night or adventures in diving course book I will send them to you free of charge. The knowledge reviews are obviously gone.

Hi, and welcome!

This is PADI, right? Just wondering, what happened to the Knowledge Reviews in your book? Did the other guy fill them out and... what... just tear them out and trash them?

OK... the Knowledge Reviews for each chapter are a couple pages each, mixed short-answer and multiple-choice.

What you've somehow gotten is all or part of a 59-page booklet titled Go Dive - Open Water Diver Course Quizzes & Exams. My kid did his PADI OWD course last summer, and we've got a copy of that booklet. It's got two versions of quiz for each chapter (1-4), and two versions of the final exam. I see my kid filled the quizzes and practice tests out, but I don't remember whether he did them in class or as homework.

Yes, each quiz has 10 questions... Question 1 for Quiz 1-A is "Something underwater that does not float and does not sink is:".

Like the other folks have said, you can try to get copies of the Knowledge Review from your instructor... though there's the dire warning :D that "Knowledge Reviews may not be reproduced in any form without the written permission of the publisher."

Other than that, I would say that if you read the chapters carefully, and do the Quick Quizzes embedded in each chapter, that would more than cover all the questions on the Knowledge Reviews that you're missing. Then, assuming you've got all the "Quizzes & Exams," if you can do the quizzes and practice exams there you should have no trouble at all. Unfortunately, there are no answer sheets -- you'll have to look up the answers yourself, or get them graded by your instructor.

The practice exams cover everything on the actual final exam you'll be taking. Comnpare the two practice exams in the booklet, and you'll see what I mean. There are no surprises here!

Those knowledge reviews must be reviewed, corrected, gone over with the student and a copy (or original) must be placed in the student's folder which is kept by the instructor or LDS. If your instructor did not do these things he is in violation of the standards and should be reminded of such.

Hi Marek,

thanks for your helpful reply, and to the others too - I will have to ask to get a photocopy of the acutal knowledge reviews; albeit all is not lost as doing these other ones has been a helpful learning experience. I hope they will let me have a copy of the questions!

Since you're taking the class, why weren't you given your own set of manual and the questions? That's something that should be provided to you by the instructor or dive shop.

Oh... I guess that would explain why the Knowledge Reviews in kkjc5698's book are missing, right?

I can't remember whether the PADI instructor where my son did his JOWD course last year photocopied the Knowledge Reviews for his records... I hope so (that would be for the instructor's CYA sake, right?)... but the fact is that the original Knowledge Reviews are still in the book.

And what's up with that warning not to copy the Knowledge Reviews? A way to sell more books (if I were cynical)?

What about the "Quizzes & Exams" booklet? Can students keep that? Because again, my son certainly did...

One issue may be, here in Poland is the far end of the PADI logistics pipeline; and this was the first course this shop had ever given in English (besides my son, there was one Dutch student, one Flemish-Belgian student, and one from Denmark). So there was some paperwork confusion.

To digress, the instructor teaching (assistant instructor, I think, in retrospect) was very good... Just needed a bit of help with certain English words... "breathe" and "breath" are pronounced completely differently, and "weight" is different from "weigh"!! Of course, it's weird English spelling that's to blame for that... We got the manual in English, but not a DVD... they fortunately did have one English-language DVD for the classroom.

One interesting part was, the assistant instructor taught the BWRAF buddy-check acronym in English in the classroom. But for one of the pool sessions, the supervising instructor took over. He had a bit of that Old World no-BS "cracking the whip" attitude -- practically had the students all standing in line at attention at the pool's edge. But that's not bad.

Problem was, he didn't know any English -- the AI was translating, fighting against the echo of a loud public pool. And the instructor was using the Polish acronym equivalent of BWRAF... of course, all the words are different, and so is the acronym. Oops! The students were looking at each other, scratching their heads in confusion...

But they got through it.
