[Disclaimer: I'm no DIR, knots or even diving expert.]
I've seen several images and videos about how to correctly tie a snap bolt to a hose. I've come to believe this is the official DIR way.
Trying to describe it with words, it comes down to running the line three times between hose and bolt and then doing two reef knots on the opposite sides of the connection between the two items. [edit: maybe the first was just an overhand knot and only the second a reef knot]
My questions are:
- Is that some kind of "standard" knot for that purpose?
- Do you have a reference to an analysis of why is that the chosen knot?
- Isn't the melting of the line the only thing stopping the reef knot/s to capsize (ABoK #1205) and run open (in reverse order of tying)?
