The DIR answer is to take the right tool for the job. Knives are crappy pry bars and pry bars make crappy knives.

You NEED the safety benefits of a knife. Pry bars are optional based on the job to be done.

.. I was pulled off the ship and taken to security to be present when the SWAT team went through my stuff. Then they smirked and giggled when they saw the 1.5" inch blade...
Let me guess, but you did get proper glasses to drink from and steel cutlery at dinner to eat with......

It baffles me how security works in some instances. Can not bring stuff on board (flights as well), but once on board, you get enough stuff that can do serious damage.

I did the steak knife about 3 years ago......still going strong. I guess you had inferior, not worthy of DIR stainless steel.....
:shakehead

Realistically, any knife will do as long as it is sharp and quickly can be drawn and cut through most things. The length we see today simply came from the fact that mounting it on the front of the waistbelt required a shorter blade. It can puncture you when sitting down to gear up. There really is nothing more to it. So any blade you feel comfortable with sitting down while gearing up will do.

..only because that's all GI3 thinks you need.
Maybe he cut himself... and thought "all I need is 1" to cut me seriously" Bring no more than you need.
:D
