DocVikingo once bubbled...
Frog kick--a swimming kick used in the breaststroke in which the knees are drawn up close to the hips and the feet are thrust outward and backward so that the legs come together when fully extended.

Flutter kick-- a swimming kick where the legs are moved rapidly up and down without bending the knees.
I'm training for cave class, so the kicks I use are modified versions and are performed horizontally.

Frog: thighs remain immobile; kicks issue from the knees. A finer version involves only the ankles.

Flutter: again immobilizing the thighs/hips, the kick involves bringing one heel back near the hips while the other extends to roughly perpendicular to the knee.

I'll make do with the flutter as I can, though the frog is the main cave kick. Guess I'll just have to tough it out in class, though, and follow my GP's recommendations on a steady course of naproxen that week.

Thanks for everyone's helpful suggestions!
