It's a manual CCR, the Inspiration is an electronically controlled one. That certainly is the biggest difference. You have to assemble the entire unit, it's not backed by any agency I know of. The Inspiration is manufactured by APD, in the States you can get IANTD & ANDI certied. Elsewhere also TDI, IART and RAB. So getting the necessary certification might be a problem.

I saw the KISS and Mini-KISS at DEMA. Liked what I saw, the workmanship is quite good. As the counterlungs are backmounted (the Inspirations are front mounted), the front is nicely uncluttered. I liked the way Gordon stowed them. There are a bunch of units out there, feedback so far is pretty good. Also, there are several people on the www.dive-oz.com board that converted their Dolphins to KISS-style CCRs.

Here are my KISS links:

This site has a teardown of the KISS rebreather (as well as the Megalodon CCR and the site's owner's Dolphin CCR conversion :D ), so you can get a good look at the guts of the unit.

So

You guys would go with the KISS. Can the VR3 be connected as a computer to the KISS. Could the VR3 act as an alarm system, since the unit dosen't have one. The vr3 conversion is at www.nobubbles.com

The idea behind the KISS was to keep it simple. The manual operation means the diver HAS to monitor the unit, rather than rely on the alarms.

I'm not sure if there is a plug-and-play hook hook-up for the VR3, but the Dolphin's breathing bag P-connector should work. :)

You can of course go one step further and turn the KISS into a KISS-SMA1 electronically controlled CCR with Kevin Juergensen's SMA-1 kit. He's the dude wo brought us the Hammerhead for the Inspiration and a digital controller for the MKx. His site is www.electricfilm.com :D
