I'm going to be in Key West in June and I want to take a resort course while I'm there. I was planning on getting certified before I went but I don't have the time so the resort course is my plan now. Can anyone recommend a good dive shop for a resort course. I've read in some of the previous threads that the upper and middle keys are better but I'm planning on staying in Key West for the dive.

thanx

Yep, just checked the website and they have several levels of training available.

My personal experience in Key West has been limited to picking up tanks and renting boats for lobster hunting trips. Subtropic and Key West Dive Society are two that I have rented from and I believe they both offer training.

I was just wondering from your post if you may want to look into doing a referral and get your full certification instead of a resort course by breaking the course into two parts. All the sponsoring agencies and most dive operators/shops offer this arrangement and you get to do all your dives in a nice dive location On a referral, you do all the classroom and pool work at your local dive shop and do the check out dives at another destination (Key West). It breaks the certification process into two parts, one weekend at home and two days for the open water check out dives. Just a thought.

The referral sounds like a good deal but I'm going to be on my Honeymoon and I don't think my new wife would like it too much if I was off diving for 2 days. One day I can get away with.

Like Lunchbox, I'm headed down to Key West next month. I would appreciate any other recommendations for dive operators. thanks

Ok i will be the bad guy. Think hard about a 2 day course. I have never seen one I would trust a life of a friend to. If youre just getting married...she could be a widow sooner than she wants....unless your rich......if you are......never mind.

Concentrate on the honeymoon now....learn to dive when you can do a good course.

I dove with Subtropic. They seemed to be a good outfit. I would definitely consider doing the book and pool work up here and getting a referral for open water. I did it that way and did not regret it one bit. I don't know about learning to dive on your honeymoon. That sounds like a recipe for bad feelings. Good luck!

I'll look into the referral.

As far as bad feelings I don't see it happening...we have a trade off she is going to be at the Pier House SPA for 3 hours while I go dive.

Too cool! I have the same deal with my non-diving wife and believe me it works out great. Have fun!
