Is there any? My web and forum searches have come up empty for shore diving. It appears that the reef is about 3 miles off shore. Is there anything interesting to see from the beach?

Dunno about Largo, but I just got back from my second trip to Key West.

As for shore diving there (which I suspect would be similar to the other keys) I wouldn't even think about it! At the beaches there is a definite "no wake" area, but you don't get beyond chest deep. If you go out beyond that, you're dealing with the parasail boats, the jet skis and fishing boats. Personally, that's not the marine life I want to see. The water also isn't all that clear until you get farther out.

On a couple of non-scuba excursions to the beach I had the fortune of seeing several very small man-o-war and a few tiny fish.

There are only two real places to do any shore diving in Key Largo. Jules Verne's Undersea Lodge, and Pennecamp. Best bet is to bite the bullet and get a charter. The real reefs are about 3 - 4 miles off shore. You won't be disappointed it the difference. If we are blown out and HAVE TO get some one in the water, Jules is the place we go. Can you say "Quarry Diving"?
