We are planning a family vacation to FL. Part of our trip will be to snorkel with the manatees in Crystal River. We are also planning on driving to Key Largo for a few days of diving. I have a couple questions:

Does anyone have any information about Ocean Pointe Suites in Tavernier?

We are looking for a dive op that will allow snorkelers as well. Our 7-year old daughter is a California snorkeler and we wanted to take her with us to the dive sites. (We will take turns hanging with her while the other one goes to depth.)

We also need a dive op with a DM that can be hired for a guided tour/resort dive. One member of our group hasn't been diving in over a year and another has only done resort courses.

Any suggestions are welcome.

very nice place. Quiet, clean. We've stayed there twice. Both times I found rates right around 100-110/night for either 1 or 2 br units.

Right now the rates are high...180 or so... but drop in april.

We were there in June and Oct.

It is about a 15-20 minute ride south of Key Largo.

I'll try and dig up the website I found the best rates with.

There are a few ops nearby, otherwise you'll have to drive to KL.

They have a swimming pool. All the rooms look toward the ocean. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Full size fridge. Tiny patio. Small dock area if you have a boat. Small, sandy beach. Access is thru a watched gate.

Very comfortable. We will be using them again.

I just spent the weekend in Tavernier, at the Upper Keys dive center. I didn't see Ocean Pointe, but I can tell you I had an awesome time. 80 degrees (72 water), 1-2 seas, and around 50' visibility. It was great.

We did take a snorkler out on Sunday, but he was an adult.

I'd recommend Tavernier Dive Center at MM 90.5 oceanside for all the requirements you've mentioned. You'll find personalized service for your snorkeling and checkout needs, plus a great dive boat operation.

Ocean Pointe condos are very nice and only a couple miles up the road at MM 92.5 a short way off the highway.

Check out their website at www.tavernierdivecenter.com, or call Mike or Wendy at 305-852-4007.

has some excellent sites for combination (dive/snkl) trips! If you want to dive Pennekamp Park (Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary) check out our operation at www.BlueWaterDiver.net

We're located in front of the Holiday Inn (mile marker 100 oceanside) in Key Largo. Your friend who hasn't been diving for a while, and the non-certified diver, could polish their skills in the pool one morning, and join the rest of the group for a couple of afternoon reef dives!
