Yes, the Magician also has Nitrox and does make some runs to oil rig, but most of the time it's chartered out to Sport Chalet.

I've never dived Magician that I can recall, but Earle said he DMs that boat, so I may have to give it a shot.

The Magician is a clean boat with a modest galley (a hot grill plate last time I went on it), but I never had issues with lack of service from the crew. My only beef is that it is pretty much primarily chartered by Sport Chalet in the weekends (of which is about the only time I can go diving). I don't want to pay the extra twenty bucks to Sport Chalet so that I can go to dive sites with shallow sandy bottoms. That goes for any boat that charters for Sport Chalet or shops that do a lot of OW cert dives.

PS I'm slated to go on the Magician with three friends 1st of September 2012; Sport Chalet charter and all.

Wow, nice video! Thanks for posting it and making me work harder at producing better work.

Thanks, Dave.

I know I've drawn a lot of inspiration and learned several techniques here to help my videos. It's definitely a learning process. The journey is most of the fun. :)

Makes a lot of sense. I remember a few years back the Sargassum was pretty out of control in the park. Was a real downer. Even more reason to come over soon! Are the GSBs still hanging around?

I hadn't, but just dropped a link there now. I prefer to post about local trips here in the SoCal subforum, since they're most relevant to those who dive here most often. Glad you enjoyed it! If you haven't dived Ship Rock yet, put it on your short list. :)

Next time we go to Catalina, I'd like to do Shiprock and Farnsworth. I've nit heard of Blue Caverns but that sounds fascinating, too.
Last time, the boats didn't go out. Low season, weekdays and there was a marine advisory.

The challenge of course is going to be finding an open boat going to these sites. Farnsworth is a longer haul, but well worth it if conditions cooperate. Hopefully you can find your way out to both soon. Really beautiful diving.
