Apologies in advance if there are threads on this topic that I cannot find... I have been searching online for the past few days, and am seeing a lot of info about exposure protection in water for the mid 70f's up, and for 70 and below. I am going to Fiji in June and understand the water is likely to be in the low 70's that time of year (slightly colder in Kadavu than in Taveuni I think?). I have been diving in 52-56 degree water with a 7mm suit and 3 mm hooded vest, and am just comfortable most of the time. Thoughts on a 3/2 plus 3mm hooded vest for my trip? We will be doing some backpacking so I need to pack light, but don't want to be underprepared. Any input is appreciated, esp. from cold(er) water divers who get cold easily.

I was at Kadavu during last week of May last year. Watertemperature was around 78 degrees. I dived in a 2.5mil shorty, no problems with that. I use a 7mil semi-dry (+hood) in Melbourne in 60 degree water and start to feel the cold at the end of the dive.

I used a 3mm long wetsuit through the 'winter' last year and was a tad chilly. Was considering getting a 5mm suit for this year.

I'm a big girl's blouse though!

3 mm steamer should be fine - I dived there last July - a little coolish between dives - water was 26 d celsius. Suggest a polypropylene liner or thermal top under the suit if you want to be toasty warm.

I dived a 3mil + hooded vest and was freezing most of my trip. It was rainy and windy and my suit was never able to dry out between dive days.

There you go. And she's a Dutchy - she knows cold.
