Just rent tanks in Iceland

I read in older threats (2016/2017) that you can just rent tanks in Iceland and go diving on your own.

Is this information still actual? And where do you rent tanks and weights without guide or transport?

I guess the best thing to do would be Email a few Icelandic dive centers. Probably not too keen on having people dive independently, but you'll have to rent tanks off them anyway so it'll be your best bet.
