Depending on whether I'm using al or steel, wet or drysuit, and fresh or salt water I use either a belt with xs weight pouches mounted upside down or the bolt on plates with my DSS singles rig. With my doubles I use no extra weight. I mount the pouches upside down on the belt because I wear it under the crotch strap. If you are used to diving a jacket bc you may also find you need less weight altogether since the BPW set up has no inherent buoyancy to speak of where as some jackets may have as much as 5lbs or so.

I'm not against the weight belt, but a hog harness/buckle plus another
belt with another buckle doesn't sound like a good setup to me.

I dive such setup, and even though it may seem like a PITA, it is not, and works well.

Make sure you get the rubber belt, if you go that route, as it will go over the crotch strap, just below the harness belt. Regular belt will move around you, you will not be able to tighten it up properly.

Also, count on the fact that you'll need less weights then you now use (I now have 2x1 kg on my belt). My buddy doesn't need any additional weight with his DSS setup (large BP), both of us dive two piece 5mm wetsuits.

I got my rig ready now. It took me couple of hours to set it up. Can't wait to get in the water!

It rocks!

I thought this would take me 10 dives to get used it. I jumped in the water the first time and everything was perfect. It feels like freediving, it's so streamlined...

(I'm using 6lbs weight belt with HP100 steel with 7mm wetsuit+stuff , I'm 178lbs.)

Tceylan,

Good to know. I'm about to switch over to a BP and was wondering if i should use a weight belt. Our diving profile is very similar: Socal, 172 lbs, 7mm suit/booties, worthington steel HP 100, and 14lbs of lead. Might even be able to get away using 12lbs.

If and when I switch to a BP, I probably attach the weights directly onto the tank and forgo the weight belt

You'll probably end up using 4-6lbs on your weight belt. Regarding tank belt or weight belt, I think having ditchable weights is a good idea as others suggested.
