Made a trip to sunny beautiful Florida this past week for my children's spring break. We were supposed to be there for a Family Vacation, but took a bit of time to get some diving in. We dove last Saturday and the vis was good (maybe 40' or so) and the water at about 76 F. However, it stormed and while that didn't bother me, it shook up my wife and younger daughter, who were snorkeling (after all, this was a "family" vacation). We we dove again this past Saturday. After spending a week a Disney, believe me, I needed it. The conditions were perfect. The seas were less than 1-2 foot and the vis was incredible. According to the dive master, the vis was 100'. All I know is we were in 60' of water and you could see the bottom, divers on the bottom and fish from the boat. Air temp was mid-80's and water temp was mid-70's. It was the kind of diving that makes you not want to get back out of the water.
Sunday, we did something a bit different...we dove with a Brownies Third lung. I have done this before, but not that much. We were north of Pompano, and the vis wasn't as good. The wind had shifted during the night and stirred up the water a bit, but temperatures were still in the 80's, with calm seas. We were diving in shallow water (8-25'), so the Brownies was perfect and kept the boat less crowded...no tanks, BCs, etc., to take with us. I think tank diving is still my favorite, but the Brownies certainly was easy...no muss, no fuss.
Hmmm...someone please tell me why I live in Ohio again. Oh well...got to get my 10 mils of protection, so I can dive in that beautiful 40-50 degree water. Maybe I should start taking cold showers to get ready
