Finally decided to upgrade my A640 and picked up a G10. Whooo hooo I am a happy camper. Just waiting for the housing to arrive!!

A little news though. Canon says it will be out of G10's (spoke directly yo our Canon rep) in about 2 weeks. Said they will be hard to come by as the new G11 will start shipping in Mid Oct. Once the 10's run out rest assured you will see a jump in price. Hell the G9 (the ones I could even find) were WAY more than the 10. Get em while they are HOT peeps.

Will post pics as soon as it hits the water.

Question........do you all shoot in RAW mode underwater? Use the UW setting?

I shoot RAW + jpeg.

As I see it, out of every hundred pictures I take, 30 of them are complete trash and another 30 are simply for fish identification. Of the remaining 40, half of them are worth keeping for the memories and don't need anything more than the jpegs.

It's the remaining 15-20 pictures. I suppose I could live with just the camera's jpeg of them but three or four of them are worth the extra effort of adjusting and correcting the RAW file for show worthy art.

Unfortunately, I don't know ahead of time which ones they will be, nor do I have the time to make that adjustment when the picture is taken. So, I put an extra large memory card in the camera and shoot both.

I used to shoot raw and jpeg... but as I make minor adjustments in the canon software, all the jpeg did was use up space... so after being questioned about it... I now shoot just raw... then do a convert and save to the size I want...in the quality of Jpeg I want...

The software, by the way, is almost worth the price...

I so need to buy another one before they go away....

I am not sure how the G11 will replace G10. G11 is only 10 mega pixel compared to the G10s 15. The viewing screen is smaller on the G11 and is movable, a feature I can't use underwater.

What's available as UW housings these days for the G10???.heard the Canon's are out, is this still correct??........TIA.....

There are a lot of people who view the 10mp G11 as an improvement over the the 15mp G10. With the tiny size of P&S sensors, decreasing the pixel density size may actually mean less noise at higher ISOs (though less opportunity for cropping). Still awaiting testing to confirm results IRL...

Personally, for my next UW camera I'm more intrigued by the S90 which has the same 10mp sensor as the G11 in a smaller case with a faster lens, and can still shoot in a supported-by-Canon raw mode. And is also more "pocketable" than the G10/G11. As always, YMMV. Nice to have options...

Before you worry about your % of great shots, consider that, before digital, a National Geographic story could take 500-1000 rolls of film to get the one or two dozen keepers that were worthy of the magazine.

I'm not sure that's accurate. I just purchased a new G10 from the local camera shop On Oct 15 The shop ordered the DC28 from the warehouse and it came in two days later. It may be that he ordered from someone other than Canon direct, but he didn't have any problem getting one. I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet but have been reading all the posts I can find on the G10/DC28 combination here on SB.
