i just bought a new bc from shapdiver.com, i got an aeris Atmos sport for $180. i was wondering if anyone here has any opinons of this bc it looked like the best deal i could find, im on a fairly tight budget so it was in the right price range. i havent been able to find any reviews for this bc online. i was looking for a bc that i could use on vactions in warm water and in the local (wisconsin) lakes in the summer. thanks for any opinions availible.

Unless you are looking to return the BC, don't worry about oppinions. Go use it and have fun.

I just went and looked at the BC on their site... They cut, copied and pasted my description... I'll have to have a little talk with them... I guess no one ever told them stealing was not right...

but anyway, we sell them for that - and it's a very inexpensive BC that holds up well - but just has no frills. We use it in a lot of packages too, and as a rental, but when people are buying, I'll try to talk them up into something like a Zeagle Brigade which would run about $120 more, but for that you'd get 6 metal d-rings (instead of 3 plastic ones), zippered pockets (instead of none), dual tank straps (as opposed to one), a rear bottom dump, and lifetime instead of 2 year warranty.

So - It's a good deal for that price - you didn't get hurt on it... but for a few more bucks, you could move up to the big league.

Did Aeris upgrade the Atmos sport in this year's version. I have one, I bought from a dive shop that they used one time in the pool during one of their training sessions. They were selling off their used and rental equipment as they were shutting down the shop as they were hired to do dive master duties at a resort down south.

My Atmos, has frour metal D rings, two very large zippered pockets, a rear bottom dump, a top right air purge and dual tank straps. The BCD is in near mint shape. I figure for a rookie like me, it wil do unitl I can afford more expensive gear.

That sure doesn't sound like the sport... and I've seen the prototype of the new sport, but it's not out for a few more months, and it does not have zippered pockets, but velcro pockets... So I'm not sure what you have?! Got a photo, or the serial number of the cummerbund and I'll find out for you.

Here's some photos to help you.

Thanks for your help and efforts.

Wow Storm, your BC looks nothing like the Atmos Sport that Larry has on his website!! You must have an older model....can't wait to hear what Larry has to say on it. ;)

And here is your answer. That BC was actually made overseas and distributed only outside the US. Primairly Canada, Korea and New Zealand. The manufacturer that was making them for Aeris had some seal issues (they would leak) and refused to warrant them, so Aeris built their own plant to produce their own BC's and terminated the manufacturing rights with the other company. This happened about 5 years ago, so it is either a 5 year old - non-US sport... or a copy.

If you have one that does not leak, they were actually a pretty good unit, just won't have a warranty in the US.

If it is a five year old unit it was sitting on a shelf somewhere is this guy's dive shop. He used these as rentals. The unit could not have been used much.(Based on the condition of things lthat genreally show wear fist, like the velcro on the cumberbunt, straps, tanks straps, and tanks holder.) My wife's unit has seen some use but it is in very good shape. We've got them filled up and standing to check for leaks.

I read about the 2001 recall on these as the quick purge would stick, but because the unit was in practically new condition I did not think it to be four years old. It could be a copy.

BTW I do live in Canada and bought the BCD in Canada. I took them into an Oceanic dealer, who said that she would be able to take on the yearly maintenance, and will be looking in contidion of the parts, etc.

Once we have finsihed the "leak" test. my wife and I will use them in the pool this week to see if they work as well as they fit. If so I may stumbled into a pretty good deal for a set of entry level BCDs, If not, well I gues I'm out the price of a BCD. BTW as they were slightly used, I got the two of them for US 350.00 which, from what I have seen is a comparable price down south, but up here things are a little more expensive.

Time will tell if this was one of those "right place at the right time :D " things, or "a lesson to be learned :116: "

Thanks all for the help.
