ok, first off thanks to everyone regarding apeks info. I just got these regs in last fri and had a chance to dive with them this weekend. They worked great.

I got the atx50 ds4 combo from dive inn, out of spain
and the atx50 yellow octo from leisure pro, in NY

now for the question. Both regs look pretty much the same other then the octo has the yellow glow in the dark parts, but some small things are different.

1) the adjustment knob is knurled differently
2) the mouth piece is very different. the yellow regs has a "regular" one and the black atx50 from dive inn has extra piece of rubber that kinda runs between where you bite it. Both are pretty comfy but feel different in your mouth. the wired mouthpiece has a US pat # on it as well as Made in France. It also has a DES. #????

if you unscrew the covers, all the guts pretty much look the same, i can tell no difference other that the above mentioned.

both regs have on the bottom

EN250 CE 0098
Ser # XXX XXXX

so why the differences and why, is one a fake, or is one a US model vs Europe Model??

please enlighten me

should be some pictures to show everyone what im talking about

The octopus has a different mouthpiece to allow it to fit into an octopus holder Apeks produce. The newer style mouthpieces (all of the old TX series had the same mouthpiece as your ATX primary) don't fit into the holder.

Not sure on the knob differences yet. The knurling on the knob of the octopus looks like the same as my TX, but the end cap is different. Dunno.

The mouth piece on the primary second is a "comfo-bite" that is distributed by Aqualung only. The mouth piece on the second is standard issue.

It is common for Aqualung to put their best mouth piece on the primary and a standard on the secondary.

The knob difference is production date! As with all manufacturing there are small changes that occur due to many different reasons.

Both are Apex and no need to worry about a fake!
