I didn't have a dive planning slate. This is news to me. Is this what you're talking about? https://goo.gl/images/gZDxHa
That would've been helpful!
(Edited to fix link)
Your instructor was supposed to go over that with you. Don't worry, you are not alone. When I became an instructor, I discovered all the standards violations that occurred in various courses I took. My OW course took the cake though. I'm about to release the second version of my dive planning doc, as the content that I've assembled has had a huge impact on my students' confidence to dive after certification. But I teach in challenging conditions: cold, dark water with occasional strong currents.

Will that dive planning doc be available for purchase? I do feel like dive planning wasn't adequately covered in my training, and I'm interested in any courses or self-study materials on that topic.

The document will be provided for free online. I’ll post on SB soon and tag you.

Just curious, where do you ice dive out there? Near Regina?
Lovering Lake is the closest to us, but the vis has been pretty bad lately. (less than 5 feet) Going to Diefenbaker at the end of the month and vis is supposed to be better there (10-15 feet from what I hear).
