After a week of random storms I finnally completed my ow course. Had a blast and am now trying to convince the wife to give me money for gear and advanced class. Looking forward to getting to know this site. Take care.

Congratulations!

You can find many recent threads about what to buy and how soon to buy it. There's no one answere but the reading can help you decide.

I'd suggest getting your gear and spending some time diving it for familiarity before doing AOW. You want your attention on new skill growth, not learning your gear. There should be plenty of diving you are currently capable of.

Now you just get your wife to come along. Skin-diving is a great gateway sport to scuba. Even if she does not progress to scuba at least you can share some of the UW world with her.

I hated the Weight belt removal/put back on in the water drill.

It will come in handy, though, until you own your own weight belt (or integrated BC, I suppose).

I've had rental weight belts come unbuckled on Giant Stride entries.

I didn't really have any hangups. The one thing that I hated was putting the weight belt on at the surface using the rolling method. It wasn't very hard I just really didn't like that method. I'll practice it because being in the military I may move to a place with drysuit diving and the instructor said that using the roll method is easiest with a big bulky dry suit. The only other thing is pay attention to your tables.

As for the wife, not yet. She's pregnant so diving is out of the question but hopefully once she is ready I'll get her diving.
