Scott,
Another slightly off subject question for you. I've had my Ranger for over 5 yrs. and love it. I've been told that the backplate in the Tech is better for doubles that the one in the Ranger. Any truth to this?
Jim

Jim,

The differences between a Tech and a Ranger are:

1. The Tech has 2 waist straps and no cummerbund - The Ranger has 1 waist strap and a cummerbund.

2. The Tech comes standard with a 65lb bladder - The Ranger comes standard with a 44 lb bladder.

3. The Tech has 8 stainless steel d-rings - The Ranger has 6.

The backplate is the same in both BCs, however, the name "Tech" may make it seem to perform better for doubles in some odd psychological way....;)

Thanks.

This sounds like it might have come from someone not wearing a Tech but rather a Tech Pac. This BC is much less popular except with some technical divers and it does have a more rigid insert, (plastic if I remember right), in the back than either the Ranger, LTD or Tech.
I think it would be a stretch to say that any of these BCs have a "backplate", they are all soft packs.

That said, I find they all work great with doubles when bolted on with the twin cylinder mounting plates.
(Even with big dbl tanks or, uh...see pic of LTD BC attached.)
