This time of year the lemon sharks start moving back to
Jupiter. I tried this dive yesterday, 13 Dec and was able to
catch a glimpse of one big shark which came in for a look at
us twice. The visibility was not real good and its probably
better to be in small groups than to be 10 or so divers spread
out. The dive shop says that it should continue to get better
in the coming months, and going as a smaller number would
give a better chance of having the sharks come in closer.
If anyone wants a shark encounter with really good size
sharks, I suggest going during the week and if the visibility
is good, it should be a really good dive. I hope to get some
photos one of these trips and will post one if it comes out
good.

We went with Jupiter Dive Charters yesterday afternoon, we were hoping to see some lemon sharks, but alas they werent biting.

We then dove "scarface" (?) which was fun, we managed one nurse shark at a distance of about 20ft, before it jetted off! There were about 12 divers including the two of us, not sure if that is too large a group, but nice friendly folks mostly.

Pretty good as a first ocean dive, only a 2 foot swell coming in, could still feel it at the safety stop, which surprised me!

I believe if I'm not mistaken, january through april is when lots and lots (hundreds) of spinner sharks gather right off the beach between north palm beach and jupiter. I'm pretty sure their reason for coming is same as lemons (temperature). I'd love to film that sometime.

anyone know when and where for sure?

The Lemons were there... remember, I saw six of them. Big, strong sharks!

I was watching you and R on the second dive. I was impressed... good trim and nice comfort level for new divers.

I was appalled at the amount of algae covering Scareface (named, BTW, for a large green moray, now deceased). I don't remember ever seeing it so completely covered. That used to be one of my favorite sites.

I would probably recall your face, but names i am so bad with!!

I was shocked that anyone was really watching us, our breathing rates didnt say much for our comfort level! But we are slowly getting used to it.

Without previous dives there i wouldnt know if it has changed or not, but heh, next time maybe it will have gotten better?

Thanks for the compliments though!!!

I dove with Jupiter Dive Center on the 16th and didn't see any Lemons. Loved Jupiter Dive Center operation and plan on going back in mid-January. With any luck, we'll see 'em then.

JDC is a nice dive op. Good people. I like their new boat, it's much better than the old one. I have a trip planned in mid January also, maybe we'll see each other, and a few Lemon's. :palmtree: Bob

I'm diving with a group at the end of the month. The group of sharks is slowly growing through the month of January. By the end of the month, there should be more than enough to look at!

I was over there with a couple of friends Saturday. The moring dives were good, saw two spotted eagle rays, two nice hawksbilled turtles, a giant jewfish and managed to take three bugs. The sea was 6-8 when we came in for lunch, but they were building. The afternoon dives were dam rough. Seas were 8-10, probably more. Didn't see much in the way of sealife. You know it's rough on the surface when you can feel the surge @ 50'. We called the Sunday dives as the forecast was even worse than for Saturday. We're planning another trip in a couple of weeks, maybe it won't be a blowout. :palmtree:Bob

Saw a bunch of them today. I can't tell you how big a bunch, because the viz was pretty limited (maybe 30 feet). We just laid on the sand and they moved around us slowly, coming into and out of view. No aggressive moves by us or them, just mutual curiosity. It was actually a bit spooky with a lot of BIG sharks circling. I've seen a lot of sharks, including the Lemons, and have never been spooked before. But the large number of them in the low viz had me thinking. (May have been a touch of the martini at 90 feet, too.)
