Jug Hole is now closed for the summer season. Tubing will open up in May and will run until Labor Day weekend, but Jug will be re-opened to diving in October.

I've always enjoyed diving at this place, and enjoy running groups out there to introduce them to one of the prettiest caverns in North Florida. This morning, Ted McCoy and I decided to plunge in there for one last dive to wrap up the season. Ted made quick work of the reel and tied us into the gold line in no time flat. We zipped through the bedding plane, poked around for a minute or two in the Blue Room before continuing on through the Diamond Sands. A quick zip up to the jump, a brief poke at the restriction, and then a continuation to the end of the line and a good time was had by all.

I also got this photo of Ted as we were wrapping up our dive.

Cheers!

Very nice picture.

It is a great cave dive, and really enjoy not only the walk out there but the dive. The one cool thing about Jug hole that is not obvious is how constant that place is, and never changing- almost like a science control group. Water chemistry predictably changes around 400ft in, as water sources change, and the distribution of cave species stays the same. The only time you ever see changes is when Rose creek reaches flood levels.

Flash back to 1997. Awesome cave dive when your guide says backmounted double 95s are okay for the dive and short walk out there :)

Your guide was a jackass if he told you those things. :p

I know. I told Ted that story yesterday... Win Brown humped a set of doubles down there on Saturday (he didn't want to wait for the cart).

I still think the Blue Room is one of the prettiest parts. The back of the cave is also nice with the white floor. There is a connection to the surface back there, in years past I've found seed pods and yesterday I found a spanking new bleached white rodent bone.

Would never consider back mounted tanks in the cave again. We used to use single tanks with an H valve, and Tyler Moon showed me how to get past the Diamond sands restriction. Had an episode once where my buddy had a double valve roll off in the bedding plane, and couldn't turn the valves back on. I had to push my 7ft hose on the floor to get them some air.

He had a double roll off with an H valve, or doubles? You know Bill Main got a set of double 72's all the way to the end of the line..

He had a roll off on an H valve. One one valve rolled off, they went sideways to get some ceiling relief to open the other valve, and rolled off the other one.

I don't doubt that with "Hogarth" in Jug Hole. And, he probably made it to the back with those 72s in 5 minutes flat.
