I still use Adobe Premiere 6.0 to edit my standard def videos. Today I went to open the project files for my "Wrasses and Basses of SoCal" DVD segments and discovered that Premiere couldn't find any of the JPG or GIF still images in that project.

I finally tried reinstalling the software, but it still won't recognize these still images. Adobe Photoshop sees them no problem. These project files were last edited in September, so everything worked fine two weeks ago.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow they got taken over by some new software I installed recently (this is my new video editing computer so I'm still adding "stuff" to it).

Anyone come up with any ideas how to solve this (other than converting all the JPG and GIF images to BMP which is still recognized in Premiere)? Sigh, just when I got the sound subsystem, etc., working on the darned computer my software stops working properly.

I'm not familiar with Premiere, but I'm very familiar with computers (I work in IT). I would burn any files I made in the last 2 weeks to disk, then do a system restore to 2 weeks ago.

WARNING! THIS WILL MAKE YOU LOSE ALL DATA THAT YOU'VE ACCUMULATED SINCE 2 WEEKS AGO, SO BURN IT TO DISK, STICK IT ON A FLASH DRIVE, OR CHISEL IT INTO THE WALL BEFORE DOING THIS!

Once you system restore, it will put your computer to the state it was 2 weeks ago. You said that you've installed programs recently, and you think that could be the issue. Re-install them 1 at a time, checking on your stills after each install.

If you have a Mac, same process, but with time machine instead.

I just checked Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 which is installed on the same computer for my HDV editing. It still recognizes and imports both file types.

I'm not familiar with Premiere, sorry... butyou could try doing this:

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder with your JPGs. Right click a JPG and choose "Open With" on the menu. Then choose "Choose Program.." at the bottom and select Abode Premiere then.

This should open up the picture in Premiere I think. Not sure if this is what you need but it'll only cost you one minute to try.

What quality level were the JPGs saved in PhotoShop? I noticed that the higher quality files (9 and 10 I think) aren't always compatable with some programs. Try saving it down to a lower quality (whatever resolution you need - and may quality 7 or 8) and see if P6.0 will open them.

btw - was hoping I'd be gearing up for a night dive in Laguna right now - this weather blows!

Keep in mind that these files all opened throughout the weeks I worked on this project. The project was completed about two weeks ago, but I wanted to run it again to export fresh AVI's due to some concerns about two different versions I had on two separate drives. I haven't changed the quality of the JPG's since the day I created them. The fact that Premiere 6.0 doesn't even see the JPG's and GIF's or list them in the list of import types now concerns me.

I'll second that on the weather. It was like winter (OK, California winter) out here at the dive park although reports were that the water is still warm.
