I've never thought of the Spirit as more than a toy (and a good one at that) but people seem to be doing some deep and long dives on the Sidewinder which is no better.
The spirit and the sidewinder certainly share a heritage as plastic toys.

my family is in lakeland
Ok, so you're about 2 hours away from Cave Country and about 3 hours away from SE FL diving. You will find instructors for most popular units there. No need to limit yourself to two choices. As others stated in a diff thread, you should prolly get more experience OC diving first.

All rebreathers are just a series of tubes. The difference is the Kiss units are made of sturdy and light weight plastic, and the JJ's tubes are cast iron. :)

I have a 1,000+ dives on a Kiss Spirit and none of my tubes have broken yet.
