Yo tam bien. (sic) However, I don't see how it relates to taxis and shuttles. The shuttles are run by the taxi union, so the money goes to the cabbies either way. Also, unless you want to hoof it with all your equipje the 100 yards or so out to the street, you really have no choice; a cab driver won't pick up a fare on the airport grounds.

I guess I was thinking about whether I pay the airport transfer fee to my travel agent or just pay when I get there. The only question on a prepaid airport transfer is does ALL of the money get the driver or are there various others who get a piece (i.e. the travel agent).

Ah. Well, there's no reason to prepay that expense if you don't have to. It takes 30 seconds at the booth to pay the fee. All the money doesn't go to the driver in either case, though, as there is a bureaucracy to support. If the travel agent is charging you a premium to pay that fee for you, then avoid it if you can.

It's hard to take a thread about the expense of anything in Cozumel seriously.

I spend a thousand or two :$: everytime I go diving, but I like to go often, and when I look at Coz - I don't see a lot of cheap?

'Course, for me, there's the flights to Dallas Ft Worth and overnight there, even before I board the cattle car charter, pay for overweight bags (they're more restrictive), and pay Florida prices for diving. I see very little cheap about Coz. But then, I've only been once, and I'm trying to learn more HERE.

So I'm missing something from you comment?

thanks, don

Don,

The taxi thing does sound a bit too complex at first but it does make sense. Package deals like those from Apple or Funjet include payment for your travel from the airport to your hotel and from your hotel back to the airport. Because everyone coming down on their charter flight will get into the airport at the same time they arrange for vans that are waiting to take everyone to their hotels. The van drivers get a voucher they can collect on for each person they shuttle so they discourage you from just jumping into your own cab because that means they drive less than a full load in their van and get paid less for delivering fewer gringos. Because people all seem to want to get to the airport at varying times prior to their flights they avoid the potential delays of making stops to pick up folks who may be running late and just give you a cab voucher to use with a taxi driver for your return to the airport.

The main thing is, relax, grab a brew, go with the flow you are on vacation and things like airport shuttles have a way of taking care of themselves.

Of course, I am flying from Los Angeles and thanks to our wonderful airline system, at last look if costs more to fly from IAH to CZM then to fly LAX-IAH-CZM...go figure. Earlier this year we saved $200 by flying to Cancun and taking a van down to PDC and then across the ferry.

I don't know what it costs to dive in Florida, but if you get the package deal its pretty cheap in CZM. I probably spent $1500 for 7 days of diving 2-3 dives per day including tasty food and taxi rides.
