My understanding of the cold water thing is with the Mk25. & I have been told that there is an adjustment that can be made for colder water....
BTW, you can get service on Scuba Pro almost anywhere.

This from Scuba Pro's website on the Mk25: Cold Water Diving With SCUBAPRO- Diving conditions can be drastically different, including extreme cold water and ambient air temperatures, posing the possibility of a regulator "freezing". Therefore, resistance to freezing is imperative for the diver. All SCUBAPRO regulator systems are CE approved for 300bar cold water diving. Some models go even beyond this super stringent qualification and have successfully been tested in extreme cold diving conditions at less than 2°C. As a specific anti-freezing measure, SCUBAPRO engineers have designed special anti-freeze components and features for the MK25 first stages for optimal cold water diving. The ribs act as a radiator to increase the surface area of heat transfer from the water to warm up the internal parts that have been drastically cooled down by the gas pressure drop. For cold water diving, SCUBAPRO’s second stages feature precision molded carbon fiber and technopolymer valve housing and components. They even exceed the CE cold water norm. In addition, these components contribute to their lightweight features and corrosion resistance.

Both Regs are very good in warm water. The Poseidon reg is better in both warm and cold water, I have dove the s600 but with a mk17 in 33f water and was perfectly happy with it, no free flows and breathed really smoothly, i know that the mk25 has more trouble in colder water tho. The poseidon reg works just as good in cold water too, have had buddies dive with them in the same cold water that I had the s600 in.

I'm curious why didn't you consider the MK17/G250V as it's more affordable n is better suited for a wider range of diving as it's sealed.

Thanks all, I'm going with the Mk25 / S600, seems to have huge amount of positive reviews.

Don't fancy 4C waters so this will do me fine. If I dive in the UK it will only be in the warmer months (when hopefully it would be a bit warmer than that!) and its not on my short-term horizon anyhow. Would almost certainly join up with a local club to do this so would check equipment is suitable at that time.

I'm surprised you're not going for the British made Apeks, which are also widely touted as great regs.

I used to own Poseidon Jetstream and Cyclone regs, but shortly after moving to SE Asia I had to replace them with SP Mk25/S600, because I could not source components or service center for the Poseidon regs.

Both reg systems are fantastic, but the lack of service support for Poseidons effectively rules them out for me. :(

I dive Mk25/S600's, my wife dives Poseidon's. She has a cyclon, a jetstream, and xstreams for doubles.
Poseidon's have a 2 year service interval, she just sends them back to Florida for servicing.

The service cost is only slightly more for the Poseidon's. I agree with the above post about servicing though, it's nice to be able to get my Scuba Pro stuff serviced locally.

I do think the Poseidon's are pretty cool, but I'm not switching or anything.

I have standardized on the MK20/G250's for my family because they breathe really well, last a long time and they're easy to service, but I'd second the MK17/G250 if you're really into deep freezing.

Just to give a definition of my scale: I dive with dry suits off season in the Mediterranean where the temp. is around 12°C, and that's "freezing". Anything below that is "deep freezing" :D.

I would also suggest the MK17/G250. Less money, much better cold water performance. I have seen to many problems with the s600 in cold water the metal air barrel of the g250 conduct heat into reg much better than the s600's plastic barrel.
