I was checking Jet fins on ebay the other day (want to get some and compare to my avanti quatro "in person" so to say :D), and found out that size large have two versions - long blade and short blade
I read looooots of threads on jet fins but I'm still confused... As far as I understand, only XL should have a longer blade, but acording some of the auctions on ebay, L size can have a long blade as well. Maybe it's just an older version?

Can somebody, please, enlighten me :D

While Jet Fins are the best fin around, the person who sized them was drunk. The "small" fins are sized "regular," the "medium" fins are sized "large" and the "large" fins are sized "Extra Large." The Extra Large used to be called "Super Extra Large."

Those are probably a pair of XL's that are being billed as large, because the larges are really mediums. Is that confusing enough?

Walter once bubbled...
Is that confusing enough?

It's not that bad :D though I'm more confused about the LENTH of the blade

here's a couple of auctions that I've been looking at

size large - long blades

size large - short blades

Just check out the pictures...

p.s. I hope that size large will be a good fit for me - I'm wearing size 9 wetsuit boots :-)

These are 2 different size fins. One is L, the other is XL. They are Jet Fins, but they are not Lightning Jet Fins. This means they are very old and were made before Scubapro changed the rubber composition and won't perform as well as Jets made in the last 20 years. Always look for the lightning bolt on the Scubapro emblem.

So what's the differance in the rubber? I just went and looked at my two pairs and they both appear to be over 20 years old, no Lightning. Damn these things hold up good, they both still look like they were made last year, I had no clue, they may be older than me!

So help me out.
I am wanting to take the plunge and get Scubapro Jetfins. So I need to make sure they have lightning bolts on them?... and I also was reading some threads that mentioned something about spring straps...?

I guess I should start checking web sites... but I'm trying to get as much info. from the board first.

If I'm a 9 1/2 shoe size, am I looking to get a L jetfin then?

Any info. is appreciated.

Thanks,
-John

and with a wet suit bootie on the Large Jet fits fine.

A different story for the TurboSoles on my drysuit...need an XL Jet for them.

As I just posted in another thread, the short blade jet will fit in a carryon suitcase for traveling which is a nice feature.

So when choosing a large fin size, do you then have to choose a large or small fin size as well?

I've emailed my dive shop (they're about 90 miles away) for pricing, but didn't specify anything about a large or small fin for the jets. I told them I thought I was a size L.

I just bought some extra large Jets and never knew about the lightning bolt.
Once I read about this I ran out to see if I got them and sure enough it was there.
I did my rescue class with them last weekend and a friend had some size large ones.Man they were alot smaller,so much that it was shocking.
My shoe size is 9 1/2 and my foot is kinda on the wide side.
With my cheapo booties (you know the thinnest ones they make with no fancy soles) there is a slight and I mean a slight missfit.
As soon as I upgrade to a booty with like a tennis shoe sole I'm confident that this missfit will go away.
I'm very happy I purchaced the extra large size jets.
In my oppinion they out performed the size large ones that my friend was using.
I would also reccomend a set of spring straps.
My jets with springs set me back $114.25 when allwas said and done.
