I am looking for a splendid dive destination for Jan. 2008. I have dived in the Pacific only in Palau & Yap last year(GRREAT!!) in Jan & Bora Bora, Manihi & Moorea several years ago in June. I am looking for a new destination & have read/learned that rainy season ,winds/stormy weather make dive conditions less than ideal for Fiji & Sualwesi in Jan.I live in CT, USA& if I am going to travel so far with significant $$$ cost I sure would like to find wonderul spot with good diving conditions that time of year.
My wife is not a diver (ie no live aboards ) but is very accommodating. I had been thinking of Sipadan but read that divers now stay in an area away from the reefs & must take take( a long?)boat ride to dive sites ANY advice is appreciated . Thanks DZ jubiladodz@comcast.net

The fact that to dive Sipadan you need to stay in Mabul or Kapalai is not something that should discourage you in any way.

It is only 20-25 mins and you do a couple of dives before coming back. January however is not the best time of year for conditions although conditions vary and can be very good even in low season.

Another consideration is the great low season prices available around that time of the year.

Sipadan is world class and should be on everyone's To Do List. Whether you prefer to do it in high season is your call.

Good luck.

thanks . I will have to plan a trip when condition sare good.
