Howdy everyone,

We just got back from Utila last saturday and are pleased to say that we all had a very good time. We stayed at the Deep Blue Resort and like everyone is saying Steve is a great guy and Jasmines cooking is out of this world. I can honestly say that is the only dive trip I have been on where I havent dropped at least 7 pounds.
The divemasters, Matt and Isabelle are super and very knowledgable and alot of fun . The water temp was about 77 degrees and I wished I owned a 5 mil but the coral was plentiful and very healthy. The night diving is the best right aroung the Halliburton wreck where the reef is shallow but hardly anyone dives that reef. Alot of little critters out and about like sea hares, shrimp, chittons and I just cant name them all.
Next trip is Oct and we will be going to St Maartin, Saba, and St Kitts and the liveaboard, cant wait and I am already counting the days.

Happy diving
Liz

Thanks for the report Liz glad to hear you liked Deep Blue as we are traveling there in May. If you can give any recommendations I would appreciate it. Did you do the flights over from San Pedro and how did it go?
thanks
greg

yeah, more details and photos please!!!!!!!!!:D

We took Atlantic from San Pedro and it was a pretty smooth flight. The plane only seats 14 and with all our dive gear we had it pretty full. As for the other small airlines, when we left they had just been grounded due to some mishap but thats as much as I know.

As for dive sites they are all really healthy with lots of sea fans and gorgonians as well as soft and hard corals. My favorite dive was the Halliburton reef. During the day you can see decorator crabs, barracuda, eels, seahorses, schools of tangs and even a tiger tail sea cucumber. At night you can see ornate chitons, spotted sea hares, nodose clinging crabs, right along with that barracuda who follows you, ugh.
Teds Point and Little Bight were pretty cool as we got to see pipefish, large hermits and a scorpionfish on steroids as well as seahorses and lots of little creatures in the sand.
Black Hills Sea Mound we saw a school of Atlanic Spadefish, some eels and lots of tiny creatures.

I will try and upload some pictures for all to see.

8 more days and my wife and I are headed to Utila!!!! I am posting, though, because of your October trip. I am assuming that you are going out with Carib. Exp. II...which is where I met my wife. I had to go from Eugene, Oregon to the far Eastern Caribbean to find her, although she is from Vancouver Island, BC. Saba is one of the coolest places I have done any diving...hopefully, you get to do Eye of the Needle and Diamond Rock, along with Man O' War shoals. You should also be going to St. Eustacia(sp?), and the reef there is quite healthy...have a great time!!!

It's good to see a trip report after you visited SB for advice!
