I heard they were planning on taking some of the debris offshore to create an artifical reef. I'm not sure where I heard this from, but I smell a new dive site!

Yes they are, I posted another thread earlier that has a chart showing the location of the sites.

Last I heard they were planning to leave part of the North Kingstown end of the bridge as a fishing pier so as far as I know those guys get to keep fishing.

Hmm.... looks like I have to correct that statement. They were planning to leave that end as a pier, but apparently after further study they decided that the condition of that part of the bridge was too poor and they are just demolishing the whole thing now.
 
wow. cool shots. i was wondering when they were ever going to get around to doing that. I've heard so many stories, like they were going to try to find a movie company that wanted to blow it up. Was it the state that ended up doing it?

Yup the state ended up doing it, but they got a lot of federal money to help.

And the scary thing is that BadHatHarry isn't kidding..... they really did try and find a movie producer to pay for blowing it up. It isn't just an urban legend. They even mention it in this recent Providence Journal article:
