Our last trip that we dove on was in 2009. Maybe it was the dive locations we were taken to but in all our diving I saw nothing that would induce me to choose Jamaica as a dive trip. Were my expections to high? I hope not but I can say coral life was very lacking (again was it just where we went? I do not.know). We loved JA as a vacation spot...probably one our most favorite locations but the diving there was seriously lacking. YMMV

We don't go to Jamaica just to dive. We got married there in 2003, primarily due to the other attractions available on the island, but being divers, we took our gear, with, admittedly, low expectations. Our first dives were with the on-site op at our AI, and were't great, but showed some promise. When we went back for our five year anniversary, we used an off-site dive op (although stayed at the same resort), and that opened up the dive sites beyond those we had experienced previously. When we went back for our ten year anniversary, we used the same off-site dive op, and what we were impressed with was that the reefs appeared to be so much more healthy than either of our prior trips. We're going back in December 2015, dive gear in tow.

Have been diving in Jamaica several times, always in Negril which is supposed to be the best they have to offer. While its not Cozumel it is as good as diving in some other places I have been such as Cancun and Utila. As others have said not a dive destination but worth diving while you are there. In Negril you will see some decent coral and fish, lobster, etc. Viz is usually 80' or better with mild current.
