Hey all,
goin back to jamaica, montego has some nice water but this time diving negril. anyone have the skinny on what to expect?
SB ROCKS!!!!

Diving is OK, nothing special. A couple of planes and the deep tug boat. Reefs are still coming back from hurricane damage and the years of over fishing. Most of the resorts have thier own dive shops & boats (Sandals, Hedo, Couple, Rui etc).

My husband and I have been to both places. The reefs in Negril are in better shape and there was more fish and other marine life. There are nurse sharks around, but we didn't see any. However, we did see dolphins, which made for one of the best dives I've ever done anywhere. It wasn't a fluke thing either. Lots of divers see dolphins in Negril. We also saw rays and turtles, but not a lot of large fish. We enjoyed the diving there.
Topside, 7 mile beach is awesome! Enjoy your trip :)

My wife and I went to Negril and had the same experience.

Thank you all for the info. the samsara resort is where we will be staying and looks pretty nice from the pics. Dolphins? how cool is that! as to the reefs, the one's in mo' bay were coming around last year (nice water too), can't say the same for the ochjo rios area though.

while out in ocho diving saw this fish thing I cant identify. head of at ray body of shark nose of a gar. the weirdest thing i ever saw. kind of translucent yellow. any ideas?

If it helps at all my wife and I are making our first trip to Jamaica in November, staying at the only currently open Riu and I'm leaning heavily on diving w/ Sundivers based on their rep here and at scubatoys forum. Not to mention of the places down there I've contacted they're the only ones to get back to me thus far.
