I’ve got 2 nights / 3 days in Jakarta on the way back. Was thinking of staying in North Jakarta near PIK Avenue mall which is fairly close to the airport or central Jakarta because I can get a great corporate rate on some very nice hotels. Has anyone stayed in Central Jakarta near the train to the airport? Traffic looks like a disaster and would only stay there if I could use the train for the airport.

Yea traffic isn't that bad outside of peak times, I've had good experiences with toll roads and getting to/from the airport in about 45 minutes. The train is also 45 minutes , but sometimes a 30 minute wait for the next train . Use the grab app! Super cheap and reliable (Uber alternative).

Less than 18-24 hours - stay at one of the airport hotels. Terminal 3 is fairly nice.

More than that, as long as you like big, congested , mega cities, I would stay in central jakarta/menteng. You can still stay close to the train station (BNI City) as a backup. Just keep in mind even walking a few blocks with big luggage can be a pain in Jakarta. It's hot, there may be no crosswalks, sidewalks can be absent or disrepair on the side streets....Which is why I prefer a Grab car.

I'll be in Jakarta in December for 3 days after my Raja Ampat liveaboard. I booked the St Regis. $200 for a 5 star hotel is a deal I will never get in the US. Other options are The Mandarin Oriental and the Four Seasons.
