Please forgive my ignorance if I'm missing something obvious in terms of terminology here!

I'm having some issues with my current BCD, so will need to find a replacement in the not too distant future. I've been google searching for a new jacket style model that has 2 straps on to hold a tank. I don't want to have 2 tanks, but 2 tank bands holding the one tank to keep it more securely in place.

I've seen photos of this kind of setup, but I'm not sure if there's a specific term I should be searching for, because everything I've googled so far hasn't turned up any results.

So is anyone able to point me in the right direction? Or provide me with some advice on models that I should be looking at? Or am I missing something stupid, like these are all modified by people at home and they don't actually sell them like that?

Would greatly appreciate any help! :coffee:

Halcyon Traveller, Scubapro X-Force, X-Deep Ghost, Hollis Ride to mention some :blinking:

Much appreciated :)

I am just going to beet every one to this Back Plate and Wing . you set it up to how you dive and set it to fit you comfortably not like a lot of others ,that fit multiple shapes and are bulky

I'd thought about it. But can you comment on the weight difference? Because I am already on the 20kg airline baggage limits for dive trips with my current jacket style BCD (I wear an XS size), and my understanding was that the BP/W setups were considerably heavier? I'm only really prepared to consider it if I'm wrong, and they're approximately the same weight as a jacket style bcd.

Look at DSS kydex plates, they are really light and when combined with the harness, will weigh no more than that of your average BC.

What type of diving do you do? For a light weight option, look at the soft backplates like Dive Rite Transpac, Zeagle Express Tech or Oxycheq. Actually, a jacket style BCD is probably the heaviest and bulkiest option for travel.

I have a Sherwood avid that has integrated weights and 2 straps, stable in any position, great pockets and not front bulky. With a belt plate you can side mount with it... 38lbs. lift. Very pleased with it. I also use the transpac and it weighs less with wing than the avid. The great thing about the transpac is you can pick your wing style and sling doubles and or side mount..

What type of diving do I do? I mostly dive in the tropics around Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, etc.

The reason I prefer the jacket bcd's is because I occasionally dive for work, and I like the pockets to store stuff I need. It's not a deal breaker though :)

A soft back plate and small wing would not only be lighter then a jacket but would also pack flatter in your suitcase. I use a small wing with 26lbs lift attached to a commercial diving harness for travel.
