Hi I am going to Florida on a fly drive package from UK in early 2007. I would like advice on small friendly dive centres going south from Orlando. One consideration is that my daughter, aged 14, wants to learn to dive. So while I am off diving I would hope she would be getting some quality instruction (one option is for her to do the theory in UK and her dives in the sun). So a small operation, friendly and in a good location would fit the bill perfectly. I have been advised to place this post on the Conch Diver sub forum; so I hope you guys can help.

All replies very much appreciated.

If you want to head a little further south, say to the Keys, check out Conch Republic, Blue Water Divers, Silent World or Amy Slates. They all are members here and are full of options.
If you are looking for private instruction, again, plenty of members here to help you out. Good luck!

Check out Larry Gates (larrygates.com) in Key Largo...excellent one on one PADI master instuctor, plus the best dive sites in the Keys

PADI dive ops and instructors are quite common here; however, if you're looking for BSAC instruction, your choices here are somewhat limited. To my way of thinking, your daughter would most likely benefit from starting and finishing her open water training with the same training agency,at least, and possibly even with the same instructor, regardless of agency affiliation. Dive safely, have fun, and never stop learning!

Well you can certainly find a PADI shop in the UK for the first part of a course and ome to the US for dives, although if i'm not mistaken isnt the minimum age in the UK 16 or 18 instead of the much lwoer age in the states?

Interesting name... I used to work with a Jack Tripp... He retired about a year ago...

If you want to head ~80km East towards the coast... check out Sea Level Scuba in Melbourne... we do both PADI and SSI.

Hi Jack!

I think it's a great idea to have your daughter do her classroom work and confined water (pool work) done at home.

Yeah, and then look up MsParamedic. Pat is a blast!

Good luck with the class regardless? But one question, once she is certified in the states, and has a c-card will shops allow her to dive back in the UK?

Hi Jack. Whereabouts in the UK are you? If you would like to PM me, I'll see if I can hook you up with a dive centre in the UK to do the referals for you!!

As for Orlando, I spent a week with a cracking little dive centre in Fort Lauderdale called Froggies. That was some time ago though so not sure if they still going or what.
