I did ask my GUE Instructor if he would be willing to train me the way GUE does sidemount, just to gain the experience and knowledge, I stressed that I did not want a card or cert and he agreed.
Yes, they coonsider it to be an advanced course. Now I am very satisfied and happy with my sidemount training from TDI, had an excellent instructor and that is what he dives exclusively. We're diving together next week as a refresher. That being said the informal SM dive I'll be doing with my GUE instructor is to see how they dive and I'll probably will end up adapting some of the GUE procedures.Wow, that's a lot of hoops to go through to get the GUE SM certification. I actually head out on Friday to High Springs to start my training and open water sessions. Because I'm trying to save my vacation time, I broke it up in two week intervals. Right now I'm brushing up on the book knowledge.@Tigerpaw really enjoyed this thread, thanks for sharing and fingers crossed. Any updates since then? Have you started AN/DP besides e-learning?
I'm pro-GUE, but honestly GUE is the last place I'd go for sm training. There are a few GUE instructors I know that have done a ton of sm diving and likely would be excellent sm instrcutors, but I'd rather go see Edd or similar. who are diving sm all the time. SM is an afterthought to GUE. I'd rather learn from someone who's primarily diving smWow, that's a lot of hoops to go through to get the GUE SM certification. Now I understand why @Tigerpaw said:
My SM instructor is actually a TDI instructor and SM is what he primarily dives. I also took Intro to Tech from him. He's a great instructor and the things I learned from him helped me with cavern and GUE. Goes to show it's the instructor that makes the course.I'm pro-GUE, but honestly GUE is the last place I'd go for sm training.
