Ivan? Again? Ridiculous!

This just in from the National Hurricane Center!

AFTER CONSIDERABLE AND SOMETIMES ANIMATED IN-HOUSE DISCUSSION OF THE
DEMISE OF IVAN...IN THE MIDST OF A LOW-PRESSURE AND SURFACE FRONTAL
SYSTEM OVER THE EASTERN UNITED STATES...THE NATIONAL HURRICANE
CENTER HAS DECIDED TO CALL THE TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW OVER THE GULF
OF MEXICO TROPICAL DEPRESSION IVAN. WHILE DEBATE WILL SURELY
CONTINUE HERE AND ELSEWHERE...THIS DECISION WAS BASED PRIMARILY ON
THE REASONABLE CONTINUITY OBSERVED IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE SURFACE
AND LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION.

ONCE THE LOW PRESSURE AREA REACHED THE GULF OF MEXICO IT BEGAN TO
GRADUALLY DEVELOP CONVECTION AND A SURFACE CIRCULATION. SATELLITE
IMAGES...RECON DATA AND BUOYS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO INDICATE THAT
THE SYSTEM IS ORGANIZED ENOUGH TO BE CLASSIFIED AS A TROPICAL
DEPRESSION. THE CURRENT SOUTHERLY SHEAR OVER THE DEPRESSION IS
FORECAST TO RELAX A LITTLE...ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE SYSTEM TO REGAIN
TROPICAL STORM STATUS BEFORE LANDFALL.

THE BEST ESTIMATE OF THE INITIAL MOTION IS 295/12 KNOTS. THIS
GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE AROUND THE SUBTROPICAL HIGH
CENTERED OVER THE UNITED STATES. THE INTENSITY AND TRACK FORECASTS
AS WELL AS THE WIND RADII REQUIRE THE ISSUANCE OF A TROPICAL STORM
WARNING FROM THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER TO SARGENT TEXAS.

Sooooooooo I was looking at Intellicast about 11 to see if Jeanne was done doing donuts and I noticed something interesting... Look at the last name on this list of Active Tropical Cyclones.

Yup, Ivan has returned! Ivan the Terrible is truely an unstoppable bear! Maybe it'll hit the Alamo and have a last stand..

Okay, pardon my ignorance (and I spent a year in Sissimmippi in the 70's) but how in the world does a tropical storm "regroup" (as the media is calling it) back where it came from?

Since I am driving from Washington to Florida ( I head out this Friday) I can just see myself driving into the big black clouds....... and not liking it :11:

The system never completely disappeared. Ivan kind of split in 2, part went northeast and dumped on everyone there. The other part went south where it's warm enough to strengthen again over the water.

I don't think the track shown is accurate because of discontinuity in the data, it just draws a straight line from where they stopped tracking it as a tropical system, to where they started again. I thought in between it really went off the east coast into the Atlantic and crossed over Florida from East to West to get where it is now.

We're trying to share with ya DD! When we looked at things and saw a Low pressure system still hanging out, we thought, "Hey.. lets push it back into the Gulf, let it get some more go-juice and give a nudge towards TX so that their water shortages can end!"

Ivan popped me right in the nose when I stuck it out in Baldwin County, AL last week. This week, finally getting back to work and I get all this rain and wind while I'm working in New Orleans, get back to the hotel and they are calling this sucker Ivan!
