I'm going to be in the Ithaca, NY area June 16-18th and I'm looking for something to do while my fiance is at a conference for work during the day. Thought I would take my dive gear along and hopefully find a charter or a dive shop with some people that might want to take me out and show me what NY diving has to offer... it will be my first time in NY, I've been searching for diveshops and found a few around Ithaca but only came across one that has a website and it doesn't have much info, so looking for suggestions about good dive shops or charters or anyone that knows a good spot to dive that has something to look at and could help me out. My fiance is a diver as well, so we will probably dive at night at least one of the nights too but mostly will be looking for something to do during the day while she is at her conference. Any suggestions?

I attended an event hosted by the Auburn Skin Divers Association several years ago. My contact in their group has since moved out of state. It's my understanding that the Auburn Skin Divers Association organizes weekly local dives, They may be able to give you some local dive knowledge or at least point you in the right direction.

The Clayton Dive Club is also an active dive group in the Syracuse, Upstate NY area. I've met a few of their members when I was up diving in the St Lawrence River.

Those are my only two experiences with dive groups in the upstate NY area. Both groups have great local dive knowledge and were extremely helpful. They should be able to offer local dive site recommendations along with dive shop information.

Good luck.

Since you have come this far, take the 19th-23rd and go up to Alexandria Bay (Thoudand Islands - St. Lawrence River)..... You both will love it.

thanks for the help, I'll look those dive groups up.

We don't have a lot of vacation time to take additional days off - taking the 3 days is a bit of a stretch this year just because we are getting married in August so have to save vacation time for our honeymoon... so I'm going to go try and find someplace decent to dive while she is in her conferences, and then maybe she will go diving with me at night after the conferences...

Tell you what rdrining if you think you will get to the A-bay area pm me as I may be coerced into a Keystorm/America trip. Great wrecks and close to home. Pontoon and ladder are free, beverages are BYOB. Hell, I'll bet j yeager may even be talked into it. Always looking for an excuse to go under!! Bob, as always you are invited provided you bring Colleen to sit up front!!

Pisces School of Dive goes out on Canadagiua lake quite often.
They have a boat at south end of lake.

It is much closer then A-bay.
Water temp is a balmy 65° at surface thermocline is about 50' and 54° as of Sunday. Not a whole lot to see in the lakes, unless to dive a specific barge.
Skaneattles lake has some great walls to dive! Call Mac at Finger Lakes Scuba in Auburn.
He is a great guide with a boat on the lake.
Good luck ! Be Safe!

We have a pool and a pond....the pond would be good for you.....natural spring.
