About 2 weeks after I returned from a St. Thomas dive trip, I developed a serious itching in both of my ears. I went to the Doctor and he said it looked like it might be a yeast infection. The medication I was prescribed did some good, but the problem has returned. I looked through some of my SCUBA mags and read up on swimmer's ear. I tried the isopropyl alcohol/white wine vinegar concotion with no success... I have another doctor's appointment this week... any clue as to what my ear problem could be??? I am also signed up for my Rescue Diver certification starting next week. Should this problem keep me from doing the dives?

In regard to the isopropyl alcohol/white wine vinegar solution... how long should you keep that up?

Any help would be appreciated..

Steve

I am not a doctor, but have had my share of problems with swimmer's ear. Use the mixture alch./vin. solution after you get out of the water. Once an infection, be it a fungal or bacterial, has taken hold you will need an anti-fungal or antibiotic to take care of the critters. Don't put off going to the doctor as the problem can become worse and lead to pain.
Good luck.

p.s. put the alch/vin. solution in your dive kit for future uses!
