Hmm after scouring a few of the member profiles here after chatting I notice quite a few people are in the IT field, being curious, and being in IT myself I was wondering if there was some kind of trend between diving and IT :)

Ofcourse perhaps its a bit bias being this is an online forum which would indicate some knowledge of the internet/computing other than using AOL Keywords, but none the less it would be interesting to find out some numbers / fields of IT etc from everyone :)

Anyone want to satisfy my curiosity and add to the headcount? just put down your appropriate IT Field, and IT/Diving years of exp?

Would be interesting to see what those of you not in IT do during those boring weeks that only exist to fund the weekend diving madness! :)

I work in Network Design and plan on moving into IP Telephony and Network Security
Im a bit of a newbie diver, no ow dives yet, just a few pool sessions, but im very excited about it all, kind of didnt even think about it for a few years!
so 0 years diving, 6 years in IT
and 20 years of being a goofball! :bonk:

I've only been diving for a few months (10 OW dives) but have been a Web Applications engineer for 6 years. You're right, many of my co-workers dive. It appears IT & Diving is pretty common around here in San Diego!

Yes it is the Same here in Aus, alot of IT people dive.
I think it is a toy thing, we get to play with computers and the latest toys at work , and that also crosses over into playing with all the loveley toys associated with diving.

After all
He who dies with the most toys wins :D

All of the divers that I know locally and have ever met are not in the IT field including myself. I think there are alot of folks here who are divers and have jobs that keep them in front of a computer all day and they are bored with work and find this board a great escape to chat about what they really love to do.:mean:

I'm an out-of-work IT executive and a newbie diver.

I think that it has a lot to do with disposable income.

(Or maybe it is the introduction of dive computers :D - The only place where Bill Gates isn't making money!)

I've been in IT 7 years as a Network/Telecommunications Administrator. I've been diving for 2 years now and just finished my AOW last weekend.

I am a lawyer in an investment bank - my husband is in IT, though. He is in desktop support.

cheers

but I am an instructor as well. I do not see an inordinate number of ITs crossover to SCUBA. That being said, there are a lot of people I deal with who are in SCUBA, or who are "encouraged" to try SCUBA.

As for the board, I think we have a higher than average representation of IT pros. Hey, we surf the net too looking for the coolest sites... and this board certainly fits that description.

IT professional (too many years):( and a diving professional (not enough years) :)

IT - 17 years. I'm a server guru (MCSE, CNE, other meaningless letters).

Diving - on and off for 30 years.

I agree with NetDoc, you see a lot of IT types on the board because we're NET geeks to begin with.
