One other thing in open water you do have the option of surfacing, even with consequenses. Overhead is a different story and that option is gone and you can't afford to loose ANY gas that could be saved with an isolator.
 
I agree with Akimbo and Cavdiver, that you do have the option of saving all your gas in the event of post failure. I do understand how in an overhead environment that can mean the difference between making it out or not. However, in a non overhead scenario, even without a hyperbaric chamber waiting on the surface, it would be easy to make it up to the surface safely.
I just find the independents simpler.
Akimbo, the quad setup was 2 x twins on manifolds. Steel HP 15 litres each. Trimix 10/70.
