Theres a cruise ship in Greece calling me name..... :D

Anyways- I have heard it was a pyle of rocks, rusting steel, limited vis., and mixed reports. But I am following the thread.

I am with Andrew....I to 'have heard' this site is limited at best.

Teknadv3x:
Need to clarify: It appears to be 2 Liberty ship dive sites.

Looks to be one by Port mansfield and the other one by Matagorda
I would not think All american would make runs up that far north

Which one are you guys talking about?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,,, the one site I have heard several divers talk about is the 3 ship site on American's site.

I am interested in anything you can find out about the Matagorda Liberty ships.

I have been communicating with Capt Miglini out of Port Aransas about a trip to the Mustang Island Liberty ships. I hope to get together 4 divers with doubles to make a trip out sometime this summer, hopefully during the week. If interested PM or email.

Miglini said the ships have pretty well sunk into the bottom and only 10-15 feet remain above the surface. But you can still swim into the holds, etc. Vis is generally not good (10-50') and he considers it an advanced dive. He also said that weekends are not very good because they will be covered with fishermen. In his opinion it is definitely worth the experience and a lot of fun as long as you are ready and do not expect to see blue water.

I am attaching some images from the brochures.

Willie... I have heard that the sand has about eaten the site/s. I would be interested though if the time frame works out on your charter....keep us posted.

So... How did it go? Sorry for dredging this up but, I wanted to know if anyone ever made it out there. Maybe this is the year!!

I dove them many, many years ago when I worked for the Texas Historical Commission. As previously stated, the rumors are true; they are piles of rubble. Not much of a dive and lots of sharp edges....

don't think I would make a special trip to dive any of the liberty shipwrecks along the Texas coast...
