Is there any diving worth going there for? Looks like a beautiful place to hang and enjoy the culture. Thanks for any input!

Most of the diving is off Gili Trewangan. Yes ,you are right in the sense that it is quite a nice place to relax and chill out. The diving ,however, is okay ,but nothing spectacular. There may be better sites but the operators keep taking divers to the same sites. I had to bully them into going to other sites.

So, for chilling out, yes ,but if you are looking for great diving , there are other destinations which you should check out.

Personally I quite like diving the Gili Islands, there are some nice sites - though admittedly there are a lot of areas with damaged coral, but on the positive side, you are almost guaranteed of close-up encounters with turtles, some nice gorgonia fans in shallow water, and some areas still have beautiful corals - plus some nice critter dives (frogfish reef etc.). Meno Wall is one of the nicest night dives with tonnes of interesting life.
Gili Trawangan is in my view the best island to stay on, second is Gili Meno.
