I'm glad the schedule reshuffling worked for you.

I was in Holbox in July 2011 & saw some whalesharks & mantas there, but the water was murky greenish with poor visibility. I was hoping to see the whalesharks in clearer blue water by going to Isla Mujeres this time, but the weather was not cooperating.

I've actually got a whole 45-minute PowerPoint presentation on whale sharks where I talk about that. In the Holbox area, they're feeding off of plankton in the water, which is why the water is greenish and murky. (Same thing in la Paz.) But off of Isla Mujeres, they're feeding off of clear fish eggs in relatively deep, clear offshore waters, so you'll get a much better view.

That all being said, I've done this trip four different times, three WS days each time, so a dozen times out at the WS area. I don't think I've ever seen the viz exceed 50 feet or so and it seems there's always particulate in the water. Still, a VERY cool and wonderful experience. This year, both weeks, my people were describing some of the days as "mystical".

I'm interested to see you 45-minute PowerPoint presentation on whalesharks. Could you please post the link to it here?

Thanks,
Dan

I can't upload it here. 29MB file. Shoot me a note to kenkurtis@aol.com or give me a call (310/652-4990) and I'll figure something out. (Thsi is for anyone interested, not just Dan.) Also remember when going through the pix that I use them as bullet points for the talk I give. So if you have questions about some of the slides (like the city bus or the Cedars-Sinai logo), ask and I'll 'splain.

....I'm still patiently waiting for the refund from Jim on the cancelled whaleshark tour. He must be busy with running his shop at this peak whaleshark tour season.

I got the full refund today. It's all good.

Next time, we'll be sure to allow multiple days, just in case the weather work against us.
