I know mine is. I live in Fla and dive the gulf side a lot. Mainly Anna maria and Venice but a few other places around here too. I have been on the Atlantic side too but encountered the same...bad timing I would suspect :dontknow:

Seems like everytime we\I go vis is .5 to 3 ft max and I still have a blast. I guess I am used to it but anything over 5ft is good vis to me and 10ft is great. I hear people talking about bad vis all the time and they say it was 8ft or less and I think that is good :rofl3: Me and my oldest are very comfortable in "low vis" and do drills from time to time just so I can keep him and myself fresh.

SO yes my idea of good vis is skewed and I would not know what to do with myself if I had 15ft+ like some have had. Is your idea just like mine and are you comfortable in low vis?

Just striking up a conversation.

I dive around west palm and 30 feet is considered pretty bad. :-) if you can't get top to bottom then it is less than great....

If you can't see the bottom from the boat how do you know there is a bottom. :-)

Done low viz dives and enjoyed them.

But better viz is always better. Less stress, you see more, etc.

Once they get down to 3 ft or so they are less enjoyable.

What is good depends a bit on the site and what I am looking for.

I know that my idea of good vis is skewed. I have experienced too many dives where the visibility was basically unlimited to ever consider 30' as good. I am not saying that I will not enjoy a dive with less than stellar vis, but I definitely prefer no current, flat seas, and 100' vis.

Best I've seen was in Panama (Caribe. side) at 40', though I have looked up from 70' once off Halifax and saw the boat. Worst I've seen is 0, but anything that allows me to see the bottom well enough to collect shells is fine. Of course, the better viz, the more shells you may see. I'm surprised at the poor viz you have had on both coasts of South FL. We snowbird on the "tundra" (panhandle) in Winter and viz is usually far better than that.

Here in Alberta the lakes can get pretty bad. I've dove by feel more than once, not knowing how close the bottom was until my arm was in it. If it's more than 10ft I consider it good.
