I picked up a used Aeris ai from eBay. To test it, I used my backyard pool, took it to the bottom (8 ft) for 5 minutes, surface interval for 15 minutes and back down for 5 minutes. The dives logged correctly, but now the display won't shut off (it's been on for over 3 hours in surface mode) and it's counting down time to fly - 21 hours left. Does the display stay on the whole 24 hours?

Thanks in advance!

Yep. That's how it works.
If you turn it on without diving it will stay on a couple of hours.

Like most (all?) dive computers, once you dive, your computer will not shut down until it has entirely cleared. IOW's fly time, and nitrogen load. That generally takes at least 24 hours.

Hmm, interesting. So, basically, on a dive trip of any length it would be on practically the whole time. Guess I'd plan on bringing an extra battery. :)

I'm replacing a ScubaPro EDI -- it shuts off the display but still counts down the time to fly, which is why I asked.

Thanks!

I have an Aeris Atmos II, same computer but not AI. The battery lasts for about 2 years, including several week long dive trips and various weekend trips. It is always smart to carry an extra battery and the tool needed to change it. Aeris has a 24 hour count down to fly, so it will always be one for 24 hours after your last dive.

OK, that makes me feel better. Not bad for a $49 eBay deal . . . . Everything appears to work except the backlight.

2 years is a long time; depending on how much you dive.
