Before I was interested in diving (okay, this story helped), I heard a story about a train that was washed off its tracks a long time ago. The way I heard it, the train was traveling near the bottom of a gorge on tracks running parallel to a river. A flash flood roared into the gorge, and the train was washed into the river, where it sank in a deep pool (50 ft.?). I believe it was somewhere in western NC.

Does anyone know if this is true? And if so, where is the divesite and the nearest road access?

If that story is true, the viz is probably nill...but I'd like to know if it's true as well.
