There is also Abyss Dive that run free shore dives on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with lunch included on the Sat/Sun days (basic tomato soup with bread rolls)

They also offer boat dives and rent gear, including the new Avelo system if you're certified (or want to get certified)

Sydney has some pretty exceptional shore dive sites that can be done with relatively easy access.

If you can get to the shop in Ramsgate someone will typically offer you a lift to the either the shore site or boat wharf (the wharf is just 10 minutes down the road)
The Pro DIve Alexandria boat departure locations is a fair distance from the shop (~20-50 minutes), the Brookvale location is only around 10 minutes.

If you are an experienced diver I would recommend Abyss over Pro Dive as Pro Dive is more the backpacker/tourist type churn through dive centre.

Abyss and the Pro Dive at Alexandria pretty much do the same dive locations in the southern parts of Sydney, where the Pro Dive at Brookvale will do the Northern parts of Sydney.

I have been diving with Abyss for 13 years and they are a great dive centre.

There are some other dive shops worth talking to as well:

Dive Bondi*
Frog Dive
Southern Cross Divers* (more technical diving)
Dive Centre Manly
*offer boat dives

"Remember that April will be transitioning to winter, and the water there isn't exactly warm to begin with"
The Sydney water temps are usually about three month behind the weather seasons, we are in summer at the moment and the water temp is around 18-20 degrees, and it will be warming up still for the next few months where February/march will be the peak warmth with 21-25 degrees and then start to drop down through April.
Additionally, the visibility picks up in the colder water and our winter (June to August) is our better diving vis wise, but thicker wetsuits /drysuit are needed.
