I'm diving Fort Wetherill for the first time tomorrow (Saturday).

The website for the RI Department of Environmental Management shows regulations that prohibit the taking of winter flounder NORTH of the line of Fort Wetherill to Fort Adams (and other areas).

Does that mean prohibited at Fort Wetherill also?

Have there been many winter or summer flounder in the area?

Thanks.

It's illegal to harvest OR possess winter flounder north of the Colregs line (line from Ft adams to ft wetherill to pt jude). So you would have to get them off bull's point and then never enter the bay with them. Plus why take winter flounder when fluke season doesn't end until september 16th? :D

Thanks!

The only reason was in case there weren't any fluke, but only winter flounder.

As it turned out, I saw just one barely legal winter which I passed up and two possibly legal fluke that outsmarted me before I could even uncap my spear! Got pics of one at least.

The fluke might be a good reason to me dive Fort Wetherill more often, since they have been rare in my usual dive sites in Cape Ann.

For fluke either dive the east cove at Wetherill or dive the red brick wall beach at Ft adams. That's where they like to hang (from shore at least). :D
