OK, first off, I will admit that there are a few post in that thread that do not add up. But if one reads the info from the very knowledgeable DA Aquamaster and Greg Barlow it is plain to see that Ti is just a waste of money.
So since they believe they're a waste of money, that's it? No more questions to be asked? "OK, since they said it, they're bad." Doesn't make since to me.
There's a couple of reasons people like titaniums regs and the biggest factor is the lack of corrosion. I don't have corrosion problems and my reg performs great, so therefore I like it. I also read that people have to add lead, because their regs are lighter? What???? You lose a few ounces and have to add lead to compensate for it?
Secondly, if you, yourself have experienced problems, albeit non-explosive, with high O2 and your Ti regulator, how can you say MOST of it is Urban Legend?
Have you, first hand, ever read any news or saw pictures regarding exploding regulators? Have you seen any type of recalls concerning these little incendiary time bombs? Its usually the "I had this friend and he saw" speech.
As one poster succinctly put it, "I could think of some other items I would spend the extra money on."
So can I. I'm not stating everyone should get a Ti, because that's the way to go. I'm just saying make your decision based on facts, not these phantom exploding time bombs that everyone's friends seem to know about. Regulator manufactors are not going to put a product on the street that, in the event a person makes a mistake, they're going to pay for it via an explosion/fire. Just follow the directions listed in the manual and you'll be fine.
